Help Wanted! I have currently run into a position where I an unable to visit the club as much as I want to and is needed (as you've probably seen). So I'm calling out for help. It's not too hard of work, you'd just need to stop by about once a week. I'd like to have 1 or 2 people to help with New Members and 2 or 3 people to help with Club Submissions. Note the club if you're interested!

We are a brand new group dedicated to producing characters that fit the needs of writers, graphic novelists, and other creative types. If any of your writers needs help coming up with character designs or wants a drawing of a character, they can come to us! I don't know how you want us to allow your members to use us, but we are open to suggestions!"
~Book-Reviews "I have, earlier today (28/8/09) started up a group for reviewing books. Currently there is only one review published there, but I am hoping to add to that in the very near future. I realise that your club is more about writing than reading, but I figure, the two go hand-in-hand. I’m planning to update with a new review at least once a week and am trying to make it as easy as possible for others to submit reviews as well. There will also be a list of fifty books that members recommend."

It's easy! Just send a note titled JOIN, put a on the club, and we'll add you to the members list

Important: If you comment your join, it may be missed or looked over so please send a note.

Submitting
Send a note titled SUBMISSION with the link and title of your deviation and we'll submit it to the gallery. Please only send ONE piece per note. We'll send you a reply to confirm that your piece was submitted. If we do not accept your piece we will reply with a reason why. You may challenge, but we have overall decision.

If you'd like, you can add a short Author's Note to the bottom, and we will add it in with your submission Make sure to label it in your note, or we won't put it with your submission.

Rules about Submitting
1. The piece must be a SHORT STORY (meaning no poetry, novel chapters, etc.)
2. A story must be between 1/2-5 pages long on a word document like Microsoft Word.
3. You can submit 3 times per week. (a new week starts on Sunday at 12:00 A.M.)
4. Please don't submit anything distasteful, follow dA submission policy.
5. The piece must be your original work. DO NOT submit others work.
6. We will not accept anything marked STRICT MATURITY.
7. If your submission contains any bold, italics, underlining, etc, and you'd like us to have that in our club submission let us know in your note. We need to go through and enter html codes for this to work so you need to notify us if you'd like it.
8. If you are submitting a fanfiction it has to be a short story, no chapter by chapter deals. Also, in your note please indicate that it is fanfiction. Thanks!

The Girl They Called Phoenix by *Tuttlebird

This is a very obvious title, which would probably spoil the surprise for people to read it as people would've guess it's very related to the subject. Upon looking at how she represents the story, describe the scene and write the characters inside, these made the story pure.

It doesn't use any montage; there isn't any special skill used in it, but when it comes to planning and such, the story line is clear and detailed to form the image within the mind of the reader. What more interesting is during the turning point from the girl's ability to play flame, to her burning and the reborn, it flows pretty well and without giving the reader to stumble upon any misunderstanding in it, except for wondering who the girl is from the beginning.

Overall, I like this story very much not because it's the first of all the entries, but it has made the effort to be among the most relating and creative as well.



At the Block by =cairnthecrow

I chose 'At the Block' as my favorite because it differed from the others. Others were either classic Phoenix rebirth, or 'I'm demented and I'll get better', some of the entries were just: 'Fuck that, bananas, drink shit...' and I don't know what else, forcing the slang.

So if you read this one, in the artist's comments you will see a confession, saying the idea is combined by artist's own ideas and the idea of the 'Bookworld'. The fact the idea of the Bookworld was not the original idea of the participant, made me lower the points for this work in the beginning. But in the end it still won me over because I really liked the style and the take on the subject of the Rebirth/New Life. Also, Aaron is a character that grew on me , and I liked the insight in his thoughts. A story with just enough descriptions, unlike some others in the contest that have really gone way to far with describing.
Surely, there is someone who will be smart enough to say this is not the criteria for the choice of the best piece of work, but Hell, what is?
I liked the piece, and that's most that matters, the style is good and it left quite an impression on me, and this is a piece that didn't meld with many others like this one.
Sure the artist took the motive of the 'Bookworld' from someone else, but didn't you do the same as well? Phoenixes, such a stereotype for Rebirth, Emo kids cutting themselves... And yeah, why do emos cut their wrists? If you really want to die, why not cut your neck or something? Whoops. I've gone too far off now.



At the Block by =cairnthecrow

My favorite piece was definitely At The Block by =cairnthecrow. I found the piece refreshingly original and very attention grabbing. It was executed with flawless imagery and fabulous plot. I really appreciated the depth of the character that was built in such a short piece of literature. All in all, a really well done short story.



Shedding Lies by *ToaAkatsuki

I believe everyone once in a while, everyone should look in the mirror and take a gander at what they see. Don't be afraid to ask the question, do I know the person who is staring back at me? I loved this story because of the self-transformation the character ventured through. She was able to admit to herself that she didn't like what she saw, and she did something about it. Very inspiring!

1) Media type exclusive to literature only.
--a) Literature has to be a short story (to promote the club's purpose).

2) Three entries maximum per deviant.

3) Your entry must be new. We want you to get your creatuve juices flowing.

4) You must note in your deviation description that it's for this contest. You may title the deviation whatever you wish.

5) Your entry must fit the theme.

6) Respect dA Rules and Policy.

7) This contest is open to all, you do not need to be in the club to enter.

8) To submit, send the club a note titled NEW LIFE/REBIRTH CONTEST. If you are a part of the club, they won't be submitted to the gallery until the contest is over.

9) When the deadline is reached you must have your final work up for judging. Editting after the deadline is strictly forbidden and is grounds for disqualification from the contest.
